Northern powerhouse Minerva Punjab FC have yet another reason to cheer as former Minerva Punjab FC skipper Anwar Ali stunned the football fanatics of the country as he helped India U20 register a thumping 2-1 victory against 6 time World Champions Argentina U20 at the ongoing COTIF Cup 2018 in Spain.
The Blue Colts led by Floyd Pinto stunned their South American opponents as Deepak Tangri scored in as early as 4 minutes, a set back came in soon as India was reduced to 10 men as Aniket Jadhav was sent off in the 50th minute, But the Blue cubs did’nt loose their hope and soon were rewarded as Anwar Ali scored from a free-kick in the 68th minute. Argentina pulled one back in the 72nd minute.
Notebly, Anwar Ali is a product of renowned Minerva Punjab FC’s Youth Development Programme and was a part of MPFC’s U15 and U18 team, The Punjab born lad was also 1 of the 4 players who were selected to represent India in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in which his brilliant performance caught the eyes of India’s top flight clubs looking to rope him for the big league’s !
In June 2018, Anwar Ali broke all transfer records as he made the most expensive transfer in the History of Indian Football that saw him switch sides to Indian Super League team Mumbai City FC on a 3 year deal. The Transfer Fee for the 18 year old itself saw Minerva Punjab FC being paid 30 lakhs approx by the Mumbai based team making the most expensive transfer for a U-18 player in the history of Indian Football.
